Childhood Nutrition

The benefits of good nutrition on health are undeniable, but nutrition during those first few crucial years has a major impact on a child’s learning, development, and their health in later years. Our nutrition programmes for families with young children provides advice and support during the first few crucial years. We help children to reach their full potential by preventing and correcting nutritional deficiencies, helping your child to conquer feeding difficulties, treating food allergies, and other health problems; for example:

Special nutrition care for pre-term babies. Babies that are born too early, especially those born before 34 weeks, may need special nutrition support. If they are not taking enough to support normal growth goals, we can help to ensure the baby gets the right nutrition. This support can also be helpful when the baby needs to move from milk to solids, as well as during the toddler years when they may become fussy eaters.

Food allergies or food sensitivities. If your child has symptoms such as such as persistent eczema, runny nose, ear infections, diaper rash, diarrhoea, constipation, fussiness, or aversion to eating, they may have a food allergy or food sensitivity. They are often difficult to diagnose accurately with even with blood tests. That is why the new guidelines recommend an allergy focus health and diet history should be undertaking before other investigations. Our consultant dietitian can guide you through the process of identifying the foods that may be the cause of your child’s difficulties. We can help you through an elimination diet that will ensure that your child continues to grow and develop by providing a nutritionally-complete diet plan. However, we may also recommend that your child should be referred to a Paediatrician; depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Persistent digestive problems. Many digestive issues can be improved by making changes to the diet. For example, digestive conditions such as reflux, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, and stomach aches, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s, Celiac, and IBS. Our Consultant Dietitian can help you make the changes to treat these condition without causing nutritional deficiencies.

Children with special health care needs. Our Consultant Dietitian has special training and many years’ experience in providing the proper nutrition for children with a wide variety of complex health conditions such as Trisomy 21, cardiac defects, cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities, trauma, chronic respiratory issues, and tube feeding.
